Giant Nuclear Bodies in Epithelioid Leiomyosarcoma
Department of Pathology, Jikei University School of Medicine 3-25-8, Nishishinbashi, Tokyo, Japan 105
The giant nuclear bodies were displayed in the most immature-looking tumor cells of epithelioid leiomyosarcoma. They were composed of agranular components and microfilaments, and surrounded by an electron lucent halo. These giant nuclear bodies were of the largest size not previously described, taken as corresponding to Type I of Bouteille et al. classification. These giant nuclear bodies were not observed in nuclei of the comparatively mature-looking tumor cells, and instead, two or more small nuclear bodies appeared. The correlation between the size of the nuclear bodies and the maturation of tumor cells is discussed.
